The accent obsession of local anons is hilarious. Why are you worrying about this? You don't go to America or Britain, you live in Russian city and speak Russian most of the time of your daily life. Maybe you will emigrate to America, but you still spend most of your time in post-Soviet community because of your post-Soviet mentality. If you wanna find a job and get out of post-Soviet crowd, then accent ain't not a thing to master, better sharpen your hard skills, bro. You need a JOB in America, not a perfect accent in English. There are a millions of Americans who are living their best lives without having a perfect accent. But many of you, I should say, MOST of you probably won't go to America. That's harsh reality, bro. So stop spreading accent bullshit at this board and enjoy your life in Russia.

Also I would like to share my thought about learning English in general. Many of you don't know why they should learn English. First of all, you should figure this out and then make a plan to reach your goals. There are many ways of learning a new language but chosing among them depends on what are you gonna do with these language skills. If you won't travel, emigrate or speak with foreigners in your country or via Discord, so you don't have to learn speaking English at the first time. So, in that case, you should concentrate on specific language usage - reading, writing, listening. Then find the best materials created for that specific domain of language learning. For example, there are hundreds of textbooks for learning English reading skills. Read Amazon reviews and download some books to find the best among them. Then learn that specific skill of reading. The same for other skills.

One of the best ways to learn (almost) any language are the Pimsleur courses. You can find it on the Rutracker.

Unfortunately 4chan is blocked by my Internet provider. I need a decent place to practice my writing skills.

I didn't listen your recordings, I'm talking about some weird discussions in English learning thread. Some people are obsessed with pronounciation. I'm here not to listen someone trying to 'sound like a native', but to improve my writing skills.

Whats about another skills apart from the writing one?

I read internet articles, posts on Reddit and X, sometimes books, but I think that I have some kind of ADHD, so I can start reading a book and then after 30-40 minutes drop it because I become interested in something else. Maybe that's normal and I should consider reading many books at the same time. Some people do that. My favorite website for reading is English Wikipedia, I really like it. Also I watch & listen YouTube videos at work.

I don't think that I need a perfect speaking skills in English, because at the moment I don't wanna go to America or travel to other countries. English helps me find new information from the world, but I don't have so much motivation to communicate with native English speakers. Maybe that's silly, because talking and chatting with new people can open new perspectives and give many insights (maybe someone changed his life completely because of his foreign friends) but now I prefer to consume information I'm interested in and not chatting too much with English-speaking people in the Internet. I spend enough time with my Russian friends, so English-speaking Internet for me is more like media or encyclopedia than chat room. Even if I go to places like 4chan or Reddit, I wanna find something interesting, but not to communicate with them. Maybe that sounds strange.

Why learn writing skills then? Because sometimes I wanna learn or find something and it's so specific that it's better ask about it in the post than trying to find information about it. The more precise I will write my request, the better answers I will get from people.

Maybe my punctuation looks very Russian, but I don't know how to fix that. Another thing that I need to improve it's grammar skills. If I'd completely read at least one book in English, maybe both these things become better. If I'd read a grammar textbook, maybe it will be even better. But for now I'm using English to reading and watching only the stuff I wanna to. I have no exams or specific tasks related to English so I haven't enough motivation to improve it and make it more 'standard'.
